November 3rd: Sparking Creativity
Wands are Fire, the spark of Creativity.
If I had to create a guiding phrase for the Wands suit, it would be: Willpower, Action, Nurture, Determination. That feels like a solid foundation for the week ahead, even if it’s not textbook perfect.
I absolutely love a Monday morning. It’s a clean slate, a chance to start fresh. It’s also cold this morning—currently 4:13 am—but the coffee is made and already half-drunk. I managed a quick kitchen tidy-up while the kettle boiled; just yesterday’s washing up remains. Not too shabby for dawn.
The Joy of a PJ Day
Yesterday, I had intended to have a ‘day off’ and meet a friend in town for coffee. However, every fibre of my being was screaming PJ day, and I wisely listened. It was the right decision.
I indulged in some serious crochet time. I’m currently working on a blanket pattern—an extension of my wonky squares, but with panels that incorporate some truly exciting stitches. I am absolutely loving this project.
Wait. If I were looking at this from a business perspective, this blanket shouldn’t even register. It’s nowhere near the top of my many, many to-do lists, which are scattered across Trello, Keep Notes, notebooks, and my disorganised “anti-system.”
But on a day off, it is the perfect project. It’s my time to simply love my craft, to indulge in creativity, to get lost in the counting, the rhythm of the stitches, the blending of colours, and that lovely sense of something growing from out of your hands.
Action and Intention
Today, the energy shifts. I have an early appointment with the GP—an appointment I must not forget. (Last week, it was in my calendar, yet I got fixated on a website task and missed it entirely. That led to a funny phone call with the surgery about clocks going back and time confusion!)
After the appointment, I’ll head to town to visit some charity shops. They know me well and are very kind. I’m after bag lining material, so I’ll ask for rejected items—ideally jeans with tears or broken zips that they can’t sell. I’ll pay for them, of course, because I can make use of them. I love the circular economy, saving something from landfill. It’s the kind of radical resistance I actually have the energy for, and that is a beautiful thing.
The Message of the Eight of Wands
Does any of this resonate with the Eight of Wands? I always sense this is one of those cards that isn’t negative, but maybe a bit feisty—a word of caution tucked inside fast movement. Let’s see what the books say:
| Source | Interpretation (Upright) | Key Message |
|---|---|---|
| My Books (Dean) | Fast, frantic communication, creative collaboration. | Rushing ahead. |
| Sarah Bartlett | Rushing ahead, action, news, quick developments. | Make clear your intentions right now. |
| Tina Gong | Movement, energy, swiftness, progress. | Go with the flow, direct the course. |
I’m only looking at the upright interpretations, which perfectly resonate with my current positive mood. But my head knows the reverse is probably where the real wisdom lies—the warning I should be heeding.
It’s been a stressful time lately. My heart wants a few stress-free days to play. How do I balance that desire for joy with the wisdom shouting at me from the card’s reverse?
