The Heart and Soul of Indie Heart Crochet

Meet Kay: Embracing the Wonky and the Wonderful

Hi, I’m Kay, aka Indieheart, the heart and hands behind Indie Heart Crochet. My journey began from a simple truth: perfection is overrated. In a world that often demands flawless, uniform creations, I celebrate the unique beauty that emerges when a stitch leans a little, a line isn’t perfectly straight, or a handmade piece carries the distinct touch of its maker. This philosophy, inspired by my own journey and the embrace of physical and mental quirks, is at the core of everything I do. It’s about finding joy in the process and recognizing that our individuality is often our greatest strength.

My younger son, with a nod to my long-time love for indie music, suggested the name “Indieheart” years ago, and it’s stuck ever since. I found crochet during a difficult time in my life, and it has brought me mindfulness and healing I didn’t expect, offering a crucial way to slow down and switch mental gears in our fast-paced world.

I’m aiming for accessibility and inclusivity for all, especially those who might be a little wonky just like me, but everyone’s welcome.

The Philosophy: Slow Craft, Unique Design

At Indie Heart Crochet, I champion the subtle revolution of slow craft. I’m somewhat unconventional, a bit quirky, and proudly distinguish myself from the mass-produced mainstream. Bypass the cutesy, the predictable, and the disposable.

Here, you’ll discover unique, non-clothing, non-amigurumi crochet patterns curated for the modern maker who appreciates authenticity, ethical practices, and a hint of the unexpected. These patterns are designed to be therapeutic, offering a mindful escape and a beautiful result. Don’t forget to check out the Wonky Bag pattern—available in a free version, with a paid version with full photos and my very first chart! to follow soon. It embodies the whole Indie Heart Crochet story.

Community and Concious Crafting

More than just patterns, I aim to foster a community of conscious crafters who value quality, sustainability, and the stories woven into every fibre. I prioritise ethical sourcing; when my kits and subscriptions launch (in about 6 months), you can feel good about crafting with materials that resonate with your values.

What to Expect from Indie Heart Crochet:

  • New Pattern Drops: Aiming for bi-monthly releases of unique, non-wearable crochet designs.
  • Blog Posts: I will be sharing my ramblings, musings, and random thoughts, covering not just crochet but also sustainability, ethical consumption, journaling with tarot cards, my inspirations, and much more.
  • Tips, Tricks, and Requests: In time, I will be offering useful content based on your feedback and comments. I’m new to all this and learning something new every day—your input is essential to making my aim of accessibility a reality.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I can’t wait to share my creative journey with you and connect through the art of crochet. If you would like to join me, please sign up to the newsletter, or drop me a line.
